Blues Fund Raiser-Old Homosassa

Virtual Volume, Déjà Blue, and The Tammy Hatch Band is the lineup for a musical fund raiser 12:00pm till 5:00pm Saturday, August 21 at Museum Café on Yulee Drive in Old Homosassa.
Proceeds from the concert will help fund the 2010 ‘Blues
N Bar-B-Que.’
The music is free.
On site fund raisers include a membership drive, silent auction and a 50/25/25 drawing.

Donations Needed-Fire Help

Citrus Performing Arts and Learning Center is accepting donations through Thursday (July 23) for the family of Harry Borgia and Tamara Greenwell.
The couple and their eight children/s home was destroyed by fire on July 10th.
Furniture, cook-ware, utensils, toiletries, electronics, health and beauty items, non-perishable food, wash cloths, towels and cleaning products, as well as, toys, mops and brooms are needed.
Drop off locations are the Performing Arts and Learning Center, 2301 Carter St., Inverness and, Little Friends Learning Center, 416 U.S. Highway-41, Inverness.

Rowdies Soccer Camp

Citrus United Soccer is partnering with FC Tampa Bay Rowdies to host a week long Summer Soccer Camp at Homosassa’s Harp Field.
The camp is 9:00am till 12:00pm Monday, August 2nd through Friday August 6th.
Former and current Rowdies will coach the camp.
Cost is $140. It includes a ticket to the Rowdies vs. Vancouver, August 19th at Tampa’s Steinbrenner Field, where graduates participate in an on field graduation.

Centeral Ridge Game Night

Harvest Moon Craft Show

The Craft Council’s 21st Harvest Moon Craft Show is 9:00am to 3:00pm Saturday, September 4th at the Crystal River National Guard Armory.
The show benefits The Spay and Neuter Program of Humanitarians of Florida, food proceeds go to the Children’s Miracle Network.

Spring Hill Dixie All Star Car Wash Fund Raiser

A car wash to help raise funds to send Spring Hill Dixie All Star teams to the Dixie World Softball Series July 30th through August 5th.
Three of Spring Hill’s Dixie age divisions are representing Florida in the series.
The carwash is 10:00am to 6:00pm Saturday July 24th at the Spring Hill Chili’s on Commercial Way.
This Chili’s will also donate 10% of the day’s food sales to help fund team travel expenses.

Childbirth Class

A school supply drive for Inverness Middle School continues until August 5th at Arbor Trail Rehab Center, 611 Turner Camp Road in Inverness.
Pencils, pens, paper, composition notebooks and three ring binders are needed.

Bowling teams and sponsors are needed.
Bowling for Kids is Big Brothers/Big Sisters biggest fund raiser this year.

Utility Scam

SECO Electric Cooperative has issued a fraud alert concerning a scam ran on their customers as well as utilities customers.
Persons posing as a utility representative call saying power is scheduled for disconnect due to returned payments from the bank.
The scam artist then requests checking account or credit card information to process payment.
SECO warns customers DO NOT GIVE FINANCIAL INFORMATION ON THE PHONE and make no calls to 800 numbers recommended by such callers.

Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With

“Smoke alarms: A sound you can live with” has been named the theme for 2010 Fire Prevention Week.
Statistics from 2008 show three of five fire deaths nationwide were in homes with either no smoke alarms or with smoke alarms that were not working.
A functioning smoke alarm reduces the chance of fire fatality by more than 50%.

Hurricane season is here and SECO Electric Cooperative
reminds you to have a plan in the event of a major storm.
They suggest you have a battery operated radio, flashlights, extra batteries, a first aid kit, extra prescription medicines, a three day water supply and food that won’t spoil.
A regular telephone or cell phone is recommended as cordless phones will not work in a power outage.
SECO reminds you to turn appliances off if power is lost and to make sure generators are properly ventilated and installed.
A free storm guide is available at any SECO office.

The Sanctuary Mission on Grover Cleveland Blvd., in Homosassa, is a safe house, providing emergency shelter and a residential transitional housing program for men–for women, and for women with children.
The Sanctuary is a non profit–accepting donations of cash and durable goods. It has served Citrus County since 1977.
